Job Description

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that pharmacy technicians help licensed pharmacists dispense prescription medication.  Along with that, technicians also may prepare insurance claim forms, maintain patient profiles, answer phones, take inventory, and other duties.

Work Environment
Pharmacy technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other healthcare areas.

Required Training
Healthcare training for pharmacy technicians is extremely important. Students should have or be pursuing a high school diploma or GED, and numerous states require the completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) to work as a technician.  Online pharmacy technician programs are a great way to be fully educated for the job.

Job Outlook
Pharmacy technician jobs are expected to increase substantially over the next years, due to the constant availability of new drugs, the national shortage of registered pharmacists, the establishment of certified pharmacy technicians, and the aging population.
